Bucharest: framework for implementation of electric taxis
Today, many countries are putting a lot of effort into transforming their environment into more eco-friendly one. Recently, the city of Bucharest implemented various amendments which will enable the implementation of electric vehicles into taxi service.
These amendments, presented by The Capital City Hall, aim at promotion and wider use of electric cars on the streets. These changes include extensive allocations of funds and resources in the form of subventions for taxi licences.
The applicants will be ranked according to points range. The ones seeking out to purchase a full electric vehicle will be granted 30 points, which is the highest possible amount. The second group, which is composed of drivers who are interested in plug-in hybrids, will receive 20 points. The third group is reserved for all those seeking a hybrid and will receive 10 points. The last and lowest category is for buyers of Euro 6 vehicles, who will be granted 5 points.
Mayor of Bucharest Nicusor Dan stated:”I am a great supporter of the development of taxi service in the city”. He further mentioned there will be around 2700 licences subvenced by this project.
Further benefit of these amendments is its flexibility. Mayor Dan stated: “We can further enable the change of the weight criteria for these vehicles. This is an important attribute that will give these regulations to local councils”.
These changes are also applied to ride-sharing services, primarily Uber and Bolt, which are classified in law as alternative transportation.
This is an important step for the development of a healthier environment in the city of Bucharest. In tandem with air pollution regulations, it will present a stable basis on which all further developments could be made. Mayor Dan showed great interest in these kinds of actions, which will hopefully be continued in the future. (photo credit: royalsblue.com)
