Art is reviving Padua this spring
The Tuscan artist ZED1 was chosen to create a stunning piece of street art on the facade of a building located in via Tiziano Aspetti in Padua. The new mural at Arcella is part of the project which aims to tell the story of the neighborhood by shining a spotlight on famous people who worked in the city’s landmark industries.
Mayor of Padua Sergio Giordani stated on social media: “The mural depicts the face of the shoemaker Sartori, one of the first merchants in Via Aspetti who came to live and work in the building seventy years ago. With art, Padova is reborn!”
According to mayor Giordani, the new mural is part of a broader urban redevelopment of the neighborhood, within the project “Museo a Cielo Aperto Arcella” in the area between via Aspetti and vicolo Lombardo, where a new parking was previously also created in place of an abandoned gas station.
Anna and Roberto Sartori, the owners of the property, told Padovando Magazine: “The work is intended as a tribute to our grandfather. He started living here after World War II. He was a shoemaker, one of the many industries that gave strength to this neighborhood. Today, after about 70 years, we too want to give a sign of new life to the building as well as to the Arcella”.
According to mayor Giordani, art and creativity ‘’open the mind’’, which is why he actively supports and promotes the local art scene. Last week, he attended the opening of the MAC Studi d’artista exhibition, which is a joint initiative by Youth Project Office and the Municipality of Padua that aims to support young artists working in the field of contemporary arts.
‘’Curious, provocative and innovative projects created by three young artists, Martina Camani, Maria Pilotto and Jonel Zanato. It’s worth discovering them by visiting the exhibition that remains open until May 19,’’ mayor of Padua Sergio Giordani stated. (photo credit: screenshot/Padova Oggi)
