New art project in the center of Linköping
During November, Linköping’s center will be filled with art. It will be a way to lift the city center and counteract the emptiness that afflicts the city when the pandemic forces people to keep their distance.
It is called Exposé 2020 and is arranged by Linköping Municipality which is led by Mayor Lars Vikinge. Between 15 and 20 artists participate and the purpose of the art is to lighten the mood in November.
– The idea was to fill the city’s empty gaps. We wanted something to happen now when so many other events are not happening. Some works of art will be subtle and difficult to detect, others will be clearly visible, says Truels Olin, operations manager, cultural scenes.

One of the more visible works will be placed at St. Larskyrkan, another between the flagpoles on Stora torget and what may be the most difficult to detect will be located on a roof at Lilla torget. Several of the shop windows that are empty today will also be filled with art.
– These are contemporary artists who engage in social reflection. They have been given a very short time so we have not given them any special framework, but some of them reflect the pandemic, says Truels Olin.
The Culture and Leisure Administration in Linköping Municipality is behind the art project, but they are financing it together with the Environment and Public Works Administration. The municipality also collaborates with Linköping’s innermost and other private actors in Linköping.
