Mayor Aleksandra Dulkiewicz: Christmas Market will fill people’s hearts with hope

During the announcement of the Christmas events in the city, mayor of Gdansk Aleksandra Dulkiewicz said that they organized a Christmas Market and lit up the city “in order to fill people’s hearts with hope, because that is the idea of Christmas”.

Fairy-tale illuminations, treats, original gifts and a festive atmosphere, with a beautiful fragrant Christmas tree will be giving a magical sense to Gdansk in these next five week of the Market.

Dulkiewicz said that festive atmosphere will not only dominate Targ Weglowy, where the Market will be positioned, but instead that Christmas will be “felt by the residents of the entire city”. She also added that they have other attractions prepared.

When it comes to the size of the Market, it is even bigger than previous years, but due to the pandemic the number of visitors is reduced. In many countries around Europe, the Christmas Markets are cancelled, but authorities of Gdansk believe that this event will positively impact people’s lives and minds.

One of the attendees at the opening ceremony highlighted that “we know that we must care for our safety together”, but also pointed out that the inhabitants of Gdansk consider this fair as one of the most interesting events taking place in Gdansk.

In line with the long standing tradition, people will have a chance to see and buy various types of products offered by local entrepreneurs. There will be plenty of regional food delicacies for gourmets to try. For the youngest visitors, a specially sweet exhibition will be organized – a lot of hot chocolate, gingerbread and a chocolate covered fruit.

The Santa Claus Factory of Gifts, which is actually a cottage where gifts and souvenirs can be bought,  will be a mandatory point for every guest of the Fair.
