The lockdown measures have, unfortunately, cut off many residents from access to culture. Museums, libraries, theaters, opera house, concert halls and other places of learning, discovery and leisure are closed until further notice.
The City of Marseille, led by the Mayor Michèle Rubirola, are doing their best in making many free content available to the public so that everyone can benefit from access to culture, a factor of emancipation and awakening.
Masterpieces and online exhibitions
The museums of Marseille invite you to discover many masterpieces from their collections from home.
Thousands of works are available and allow you to admire to some of the most beautiful pieces from the collections of the 11 municipal museums.
The museums of Marseille also offer you a lot of video content : artist interviews, conferences, video archives, exhibition visits … thanks to their dedicated YouTube channel. Hundreds of video content clips are available for free.

The reading corner
Municipal libraries are mobilizing and offering you 100% free access to all of their digital resources: digital books, regional, national and international press, online trainings… All subscriptions are free until December 31, 2020. Registrations can only be done online, while the individual renewals are made automatically until December 31, 2021. All loans are valid for 6 weeks for 15 documents and no late payment penalty is applied. For any online registration of a child, parents must authorize them to access the collections and use the Internet at the library.
The history of Marseille through a podcast
Discovering the extraordinary history of the oldest city in France from your sofa is now possible thanks to the podcast series “Marseille without galéjade” presented by the famous historian Franck Ferrand.
From the discovery of the Cosquer cave to the great plague of 1720 via the journey of Pytheas, to the history of “La Marseillaise”: explore the history of this passionate and fascinating city!
