Marseille has announced projects planned in 2023 to improve quality of life in the city.

Headed by Mayor of Marseille Benoît Payan, city authorities pointed out that planned projects will help Marseille to offer more local services and cultural and sports activities, as well as make the urban environment more enjoyable.

This year, Marseille will launch the project aimed at planting more than 300,000 trees in the city to become carbon neutral by 2030, with city authorities announcing plans to launch a fund worth EUR 10 million to support green projects.

The fund will support companies focused on sustainability and finance approximately 60 projects that will be proposed and selected in the coming period.

City authorities stressed the importance of strengthening the green push as Marseille lost approximately half of its trees to urban expansion in the last 75 years.

As part of the push, the city will reopen gardens and parks, and put more effort into protection of nature and agricultural land.

Approximately EUR 1.2 billion will go towards renovation of schools and construction of new ones, with Marseille reminding that it is renovating 470 schools.

In order to improve availability of seasonal food, Marseille will set up a new food market in the Old Port, noting that priority will be given to local and organic products.
