Dresden saves the youth eco-house from closure with the help of sponsors and partners
Dresden has decided to extend the youth eco-house project in the Great Garden until the end of August.
Lord Mayor of Dresden Dirk Hilbert reminded that he recently received the petition to keep the eco-house open and noted “the continuation of the youth eco-house over the summer is good news.”
“However, it must remain our goal to maintain the content and educational offers of the house and to do so permanently,” he noted and added “to this end, the education sector will examine alternative locations and remain in contact with the provider.”
City authorities initially planned to end the project in April this year, but decided to extend it at the request of residents and in cooperation with relevant authorities.
Councillor for education and youth Jan Donhauser pointed out that children and young people will have an opportunity to learn about the environment and nature at the youth eco-house this summer.
Donhauser noted that he is happy Dresden extended the project and stressed that it would not have been possible without the support of sponsors and owners of castles and gardens in Saxony.
City authorities pointed out that funding for the project will be secured at the next meeting of the youth welfare committee.
Extension of the project will make it possible for more children and youth to learn about nature and take advantage of summer vacation offers in Dresden.
