Linköping has prepared 50 measures against socio-economic segregation to be implemented this year.

City authorities headed by Mayor of Linköping Lars Vikinge pointed out that socio-economic segregation has negative effects on individuals and the society, stressing the importance of creating a more inclusive municipality.

Linköping reminded that it started implementing measures aimed at fighting against segregation in 2020 and draws up annual plans to facilitate implementation of measures.

Councillor Kristina Edlund pointed out that some residents are highly educated and have high incomes, while some are financially vulnerable.

She stressed the importance of reducing segregation to make sure that more people from different socio-economic groups meet and interact,

City authorities reminded that measures implemented in 2022 include the closing of the Skäggetorp school, noting that students transferred to other schools in the municipality.

Cooperation with police in Skäggetorp has improved and social services stepped up activities in the neighbourhood, with Linköping authorities stressing that work continues in Skäggetorp and other neighbourhoods.

Measures prepared for this year largely focus on education, community participation and quality of life. City authorities pointed out that cooperation between relevant bodies and organisations will be strengthened to help the education system identify children at risk of dropping out.

Linköping concluded that good education and opportunities are necessary for success in life.
