Genoa has launched a mobility project worth some EUR 8.6 million that will connect the city centre and Fort Diamante with cycling and footpaths.

Headed by Mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci, city authorities pointed out that approximately 13 kilometres of paths will be built and the area restored and adapted for public use.

Deputy Mayor Pietro Piciocchi pointed out that the first phase of the project will focus on the stretch from the city centre to the Puin Fort, stressing that it is “the first step of the broader work of relaunching and enhancing the entire path network connecting the forts.”

He stressed that the project will prevent hydrogeological instability and should be completed by the end of 2024, which will make the city’s historic forts more accessible to residents and tourists.0451

City authorities pointed out that the project will gradually open stretches to the public and added that it was planned in coordination with local associations.

As part of the project, water, electrical and communication infrastructure will be expanded to cover the route and facilitate tourism.

Genoa noted that it allocated more than EUR 20 million for improving hydrogeological safety in the period since 2017 and added that many redevelopment projects are financed through EU funds.
