Toulon launches student accommodation project
Toulon has launched a student accommodation project, laying the foundation stone of the Dumont d’Urville university residence.
Mayor of Toulon Hubert Falco pointed out that the move is aimed at meeting the needs of the city’s growing student population.
He reminded that roughly 2,500 students lived in Toulon in 2001, stressing that the figure has exceeded 8,500 in recent years.
City authorities pointed out that the project is worth some EUR 13.6 million and will provide accommodation for 200 students, noting that it should be completed before the start of the 2024 school year.
Toulon pointed out that investments in higher education contribute to competitiveness of the region, reminding that improving quality of education is one of the city’s priorities.
City authorities noted that expansion of student accommodation is necessary to support other investments in education, stressing that Toulon invested more than EUR 100 million in higher education in recent years.
The new project will provide synergy by making all higher education institutions in Toulon more attractive and accessible, with city authorities stressing that the move is in line with Toulon’s strategy and development plans.
Toulon noted that the health professions training school currently under construction will add approximately 2,700 students, which will increase the number of students in the city to more than 10,000.
