Toulon organises risk preparedness workshops for citizens
Toulon organised 14 workshops aimed at raising awareness and preparing citizens to react to risks on the occasion of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction on 13 October. During his visit to workshops, Mayor of Toulon Hubert Falco stressed the importance of being prepared to react to risks.
“Many people do not know how to use, for example, a fire extinguisher, or what to do in case of flooding,” he added and noted that the city organised the workshops as part of a broader, state-wide initiative.
Falco pointed out that the city has the duty to adapt to changes and be able to react, which is why it decided to take part in the national initiative aimed at raising awareness and improving preparedness.
Approximately 200 schoolchildren attended the workshops and learned how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, use a fire extinguisher and call emergency services, among other.
They attended all 14 workshops, of which the majority were interactive, accompanied by their teachers. Volunteers as well as firefighters and other professionals helped to organise the workshops and instructed attendants on various subjects.
The workshops are open to all who are interested, with city authorities urging the citizens to attend and be prepared to react in emergencies. Var department prefect Evence Richard noted that he is happy Toulon took part in the initiative and helped to raise awareness.
