Lille implements environmental projects as part of green push
Lille continues to implement environmental projects with the aim of achieving carbon neutrality and sustainability.
City authorities headed by Mayor of Lille Martine Aubry reminded that, as part of the green push, Lille is planting trees and de-paving parts of the city to improve air quality and limit the heat island effect.
Over the last years, Lille has built playgrounds for children in all parts of the city to help them thrive in a more sustainable and welcoming environment.
In cooperation with partners, Lille has expanded cycling infrastructure and pedestrian areas, with city authorities launching several projects to promote cycling.
In 2022, the city started the process of modernising its water and wastewater systems, electric grid, and gas and district heating networks, in preparation for the planned modernisation of roads in 2023.
Lille started the second phase of development of the Fives Cail eco-district which includes construction of 530 new housing units and roughly 11,000 square metres of commercial space as well as development of approximately 9 hectares of public green spaces.
City authorities reminded that Lille renovated the Nouvelle Aventure Square in the second half of 2022, noting that part of the area was de-paved and new trees were planted.
Lille also renovated the Halle de Glisse skatepark, with city authorities stressing that environmentally friendly materials were used in the project.
