Mayor of Toulon Hubert Falco welcomed roughly 700 new residents as part of an annual event in November. Over the course of an evening spent together, the new residents got to know the Mayor and his administration as well as learned about Toulon.

The events, aimed at helping new arrivals to build a social network and integrate, were cancelled in 2020 and 2021 as part of restrictions aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus.

At the start of the event, attendants watched a film by the Toulon communications department that highlights the positive sides of living in the city. After the screening, Falco addressed the audience and welcomed the new residents.

“It’s impressive, you completely filled the room,” he noted and pointed out that new arrivals show the attractiveness of Toulon.

“Whether you have been there for 2 months or 2 years, whether you come from the end of the world or from a neighbouring town, you are now settled between the sea and the mountains,” Falco continued referring to Mont Faron overlooking the city and the Mediterranean.

He pointed out that residents, whether born in Toulon or arrivals, “quickly feel a deep and sincere attachment to this colourful, noisy and warm city.”

Falco commented on his 21 years at the helm of Toulon, noting that much has been done to develop the city thanks to the support of residents and concluded that a lot of work still lies ahead.
