Genoa’s metro to be expanded

Mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci announced that the metro system in this Italian city will soon be expanded.

Mayor Bucci stated on social media: ‘’Genoa’s metro system will be tripled. The extension project from Di Negro to Sampierdarena is complete and ready to be submitted to the Ministry. Thus, within the next five years, the people of Genoa will be able to travel from Valbisagno to Rivarolo and also to Fiumara.’’

He explained that, thanks to this project, residents of the port city will soon be able to count on ‘’fast, modern and safe mobility’’. Mayor Bucci also stated that the first phase of the extension will commence in 2023 with the inauguration of the new Canepari station and then continue in 2024 with the opening of Piazza Martinez.

‘’A true public transport revolution that will allow the Genoese to move around the entire city in just a few minutes,’’ Mayor Bucci also stated.

As of right now, the Genoa Metro is a single-line metro that runs from Rivaloro to the city center and has eight stations. In was inaugurated in 1990.

Similarly, mayor of Copenhagen Sophie Haestorp Andersen recently also announced plans for the metro network expansion in the Danish capital. The initiative, according to the mayor of the Danish city, will boost Copenhagen’s public transit infrastructure while also allowing more inhabitants to use the metro system.
