Mayor of Stavanger has a strong focus on climate and sustainability
Kari Nessa Nordtun is a Norwegian politician who has been serving as the mayor of Stavanger since 2019. Nordtun has developed numerous great policies that have greatly improved the quality of life in Stavanger. She is a highly innovative and versatile leader who is always looking for new ways to help make Stavanger better. In her work, she is mostly focused on energy transition, environment, sports, and culture, as well as improving the lives of children and families in this Norwegian city.
Stavanger is Rogaland county’s administrative, economic, and cultural center with a diverse population and excellent business climate. The city has been at the heart of Norway’s development as an energy nation for the past fifty years. Drawing on the expertise and traditions of the oil and gas industry, the Norwegian energy capital is nowadays successfully moving towards more sustainable and greener energy solutions. Mayor Nordtun is doing an excellent job in promoting green and sustainable policies which have led to the city developing a strong reputation as one of the energy transition leaders in Norway.
Stavanger also has big plans to tackle climate change. By 2030, the city wants to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 80% and be fossil-free by 2040. Last summer, the city hosted the Stavanger Energy Conference which focused on business opportunities within the clean energy transition. Mayor Nordtun opened this major event and welcomed numerous business and industry representatives. The event focused on sustainability, with the goal of highlighting how the local business community contributes to Stavanger’s green transformation.
Mayor of Stavanger succeeds in promoting sustainable business opportunities and securing long-term growth for the city. Stavanger has a well-developed infrastructure and a track record of hosting major international events where some of the most pressing issues of today are tackled. In 2019, Stavanger was named “Norway’s best host municipality for the business community.’’ By promoting sustainability and boosting the local economy, Mayor Nordtun continues on this path of success and leads Stavanger towards an even brighter future.
