Halted in its tracks by the health crisis, the events of Lille 2020, the World Design Capital 2020, have just resumed.

On March 16, due to the COVID-19 health crisis, Lille Métropole 2020, World Design Capital temporarily suspended events with the audience planned as part of its schedule. During this period, Lille Métropole 2020, World Design Capital focused on a digital activity giving voice to design and designers, by presenting their questions and their solutions to face the upheavals of the world.

During this suspended time, the promoters of experimentation projects through design, proofs of concept (POC), and curators of POC houses continued to design, create and update their exhibitions in the light of the context.

The World Design Capital 2020 announced that all the major events planned in its program is available to the public from September 9, 2020, in compliance with health regulations. These events have been redesigned to fit firmly into the present world and to highlight the contributions of design to the crises engendered by the epidemic shock. “I am delighted that Lille Métropole 2020, World Design Capital, will resume its programming next September. I am convinced that design, experimentation, and the search for new sustainable uses will be decisive in meeting the challenges of the present time. The European Metropolis of Lille is happy to share its commitment with all the actors of the metropolis and its national and international partners.”, declares Damien Castelain, President of Lille European Metropolis.

World Design Capital has more than ever the ambition to be one of the laboratories where a new world is emerging and experienced.
