Florence is ready for economic recovery through tourism

After six months of openings and closures, restaurants and bars, museums and cinemas, opened to the public in most of Italy under a gradual reopening plan. Tourism in Italy is such an important part of income and job positions, so this plan has been more than welcomed by many Italians.

One of the cities that largely lives from tourism is Florence. The city is getting prepared for both domestic and international tourists starting from summer 2021.

Mayor of Florence, Dario Nardella, said at the International Mayors Forum on Tourism 2021 in Zhengzhou: “Florence, but also the whole of Tuscany, can count on a state-of-the-art health system that has proved effective throughout the emergency. As early as this summer, we will also have health protocols to make our city liveable and safe again. Tourism, before anything else, must be rethought and must be conceived in a sustainable way. The crisis is offering us an opportunity to rethink traditional models and revolutionise them.”

Mayor Nardella added: “Florence, like all cities of art, has suffered greatly from the crisis caused by the coronavirus. But, like so many other cities in our countries, Florence is capable of profound renewal. Making tourism central for the economic recovery and also sustainability is an important objective for our city.”

City of Florence is not only relying on their marvellous history and art to attract tourists this year, but they have also established a website called Feel Florence, the official tourism website of the City.

Feel Florence is a platform where one can find out all the most important things regarding the city, all the current news and events but it also provides information on sustainable Florence and different tips and tricks. Photo Rolanas Valionis for Pixabay
