The Government of the Republic of Slovenia announced that the country has adopted the Digital Economy Transformation Strategy 2021 – 2030 as part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, on 6 January 2022.
This plan is the country’s way of bringing advanced digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, Big Data processing technologies, and data chain technologies which will drive economic growth of the country. At the same time, it will place Slovenia among the top countries according to the Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI Index) in the future.
By 2030, Slovenia wants to be among the top three countries in the use of advanced digital technologies under this index.
This plan will enable the digital transformation of the economy and create an open and sustainable society as a basis for the growth of the digital economy.
Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana is a city that is always striving for sustainability and digitalization. The city earned the title of European Green Capital back in 2016 and is now considered one of the safest and greenest capitals in Europe.
Back in 2019, Ljubljana won the digitalization award in the European Capital of Smart Tourism 2020 competition.
The city won this prestigious award in the field of smart solutions, presenting its most important measures and plans in the fields of sustainable development, accessibility, digitalization, cultural heritage and creativity.
Ljubljana has been putting many efforts into its digital transformation in many different sectors, including healthcare.
The city established DIH (Digital Innovation Hub) HealthDay.si, a community of health and care stakeholders who work towards an innovation-friendly ecosystem.
It supports the members, predominantly start-ups and SMEs, to enter the national and international healthcare markets, and this way help with the digitalization of healthcare. It also helps the local health and social care communities to implement digital solutions.
Ljubljana is also one city that is setting an example when it comes to streamlining city services by updating existing infrastructure with more advanced features.
It is the first city to use electronic paper technology (Visionect) to digitalize its public transport. This allows passengers to view digital versions of bus schedules, in addition to current arrival times and notices about disruptions or closures for that particular bus line.
The use of electronic paper displays has a minimal environmental impact, emits no light pollution and runs on sustainable energy sources.
All these digital solutions are turning the city of Ljubljana into the smart city of the future which offers a better quality of life for its residents. (photo credit: Upklyak/Freepik)
