Valencia launches urban modernisation and accessibility project
Valencia has launched an urban modernisation and accessibility project worth more than EUR 360,000.
Headed by Mayor of Valencia Joan Ribó, the city noted that the project will address accessibility issues in Sainetero Arniches Square and modernise the area.
Deputy Mayor of Valencia Sandra Gómez pointed out that the project will turn the square into the focal point of the neighbourhood and create “a small green lung for pedestrians.”
She noted that the project ties in with other development projects in the area that will create a friendlier living space for the residents.
The project will make the square more accessible and inclusive while improving its functionality and connections to adjacent neighbourhoods. According to the plan, vehicular traffic will be redirected away from the square, with residents and emergency vehicles allowed access.
The project will significantly increase the number of trees, hedgerows and flowerbeds in the neighbourhood as well as preserve existing greenery.
City authorities are planning to install outdoor benches and tables to incentivise residents to spend more time in the area, stressing that accessibility for people with reduced mobility will be improved significantly.
The project is part of a broader programme aimed at improving quality of life in the city. The programme was launched in 2015, with 18 projects already implemented and 22 currently underway.
