Valencia has approved the expansion of the Judo Specialised High Performance Centre (CEAR) worth nearly EUR 600,000.

Under Mayor of Valencia Joan Ribó, city authorities pointed out that the project will include expansion of facilities and modernisation of infrastructure, noting that it should be completed in nine months.

Councillor for sports Javier Mateo noted that Valencia has taken a decisive step to create “one of the best elite training centres for national and international judo.”

He stressed that many athletes “already think of Valencia as a place of training when they aspire to the maximum in the world of judo.”

The sports centre received the High Performance label in 2018, when Spain’s Superior Sports Council assessed the quality of its facilities.

City authorities pointed out that the Valencia Judo Federation is recognised as a benchmark in Spain and internationally, which is why Valencia is the ideal place to host elite judo competitions and training.

Valencia reminded that the CEAR previously attracted the best judo teams in the world to train and compete, noting that 120 athletes from 17 countries came to the city for pre-Olympic training in 2021.

The city administration reminded that Valencia already boasts four technical centres recognised by the Superior Sports Council, with one more is in the classification phase, making it one of the cities in Spain with the highest number of such centres.
