Community gardens in Tallinn are changing the quality of life for all citizens and are encouraging local communities and more sustainable way of life. With the creation of community gardens, mayor of Tallinn Mihhail Kõlvart is improving the environment of the city and supports urban agriculture.

Mayor Kõlvart stated via social media: ” At least one garden has been built in each district with the support of the city of Tallinn. In total, there are 21 shared gardens in Tallinn, with more than 1,035 city gardeners and at least 3,535 interested people are included in the cooperation network.”

Now, there is a garden in every district in the city of Tallinn, which is very important for the residents. These gardens make the districts appear more lively and green, and provide much more space for kids to play and for people to take daily walks on the fresh air.

It is important for the city of Tallinn to contribute in developing a diverse and well-organized public areas and to increase cooperation between all urban residents in order to revive environmental awareness, environmentally sustainable living, non-formal environmental education, and environmental protection of the city.

Thanks to the community gardens, the residents can get in touch with nature closely to their homes. The gardens improve physical and mental wellbeing and improve the aesthetics and land use of various areas throughout the city of Tallinn.

They also encourage people to work together to take these gardens onto another, higher level which will make their community even greener and more beautiful and make their everyday life filled with nature. (Photo credit: Roheline ou. Tallinn.ee)
