Seville has invited residents, businesses and experts to take part in urban development planning.

Mayor of Seville Antonio Muñoz noted that the city is preparing to restore the Corral de las Herrerías, the Islamic Wall and the Torre de la Plata as part of broader efforts to protect its cultural heritage.

He invited professionals, heritage specialists, architects, residents, neighbourhood associations and businesses from the area to take part in the planning process.

Muñoz stressed that the city “is about to carry out a unique strategic intervention project of enormous relevance for Seville.”

He reminded that the area is close to Seville’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites and is not adequately protected, stressing the importance of addressing the issue.

Muñoz pointed out that city authorities’ long term plans include integrating the space into a broader heritage area and presented a roadmap to achieve this, which includes emergency interventions and comprehensive restoration.

“We want to give an overall vision to the intervention of an environment that is part of the World Heritage axis and next to assets such as the Postigo del Aceite, the Royal Shipyards and the Hospital de la Caridad, the Torre del Oro and the Guadalquivir River,” he concluded.

City authorities called on interested parties to take part in the planning process.
