Seville invests in green mobility with new cycle lanes
Seville has launched tenders for the first package of new cycle lanes worth nearly EUR 1.8 million.
City authorities headed by Mayor of Seville Antonio Muñoz pointed out that the package includes 4.1 kilometres of cycle lanes in three neighbourhoods and is part of broader efforts to improve mobility in the city.
Seville is planning to build approximately 15.4 kilometres of new cycle lanes for roughly EUR 8 million, noting that the project includes expansion of pavements and planting of new trees.
The three projects will help to connect Seville’s neighbourhoods and expand the city’s network, with city authorities pointing out that the EU is co-financing the expansion.
As part of the project, new cycle lanes will be built and existing ones moved from pavements to roads. Adjoining infrastructure will be repaired and new trees will be planted along the new lanes.
City authorities noted that more tenders will follow in the coming period and reaffirmed Seville’s commitment to expansion of cycling infrastructure as part of the broader sustainable mobility push.
Expansion plans include construction of additional parking spaces for bicycles and modernisation of existing infrastructure. City authorities concluded that Seville plans to implement 11 projects to expand the cycling network to more than 200 kilometres of lanes.
