Seville announces new education investment drive

Seville has announced plans to invest EUR 4 million in renovation of schools this year.

Mayor of Seville Antonio Muñoz reminded that 2022 was “the year with the highest volume of investment in recent history in education centres in the city.”

He noted that, besides investments planned in schools this year, city authorities will launch a programme aimed at reducing absenteeism worth approximately EUR 3.7 million.

The programme will be implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and local police in areas in need of social transformation.

City authorities noted that renovation of schools will include investments in energy efficiency, electrical installations, ventilation and green spaces, among other.

Muñoz pointed out that Seville is focused on investments in public schools, noting that approximately 15 schools will be renovated this year. As part of the project, security cameras will be installed in an effort to curb vandalism.

He reminded that the city invested roughly EUR 12 million in renovation of 21 educational centres last year, noting that the project was co-financed through EU funds.

In addition, city authorities previously launched renovation projects worth more than EUR 3 million in 25 schools that are in the final stages or have been completed.

Seville concluded that investments in schools will improve energy efficiency and make it more comfortable to attend classes in summer and winter.
