Nuremberg’s Energy Campus and Institute of Technology win Bavarian Energy Prize 2022
Nuremberg congratulated the Nuremberg Energy Campus, the Nuremberg Institute of Technology Georg Simon Ohm and RAAB Baugesellschaft construction company for winning the Bavarian Energy Prize 2022.
Mayor of Nuremberg Marcus König stressed the importance of developing new solutions for cutting energy costs and strengthening energy independence, pointing out that Bavaria is facing energy shortages due to its dependence on energy imports.
König stressed that the Nuremberg Energy Campus showed that innovation in the area of energy efficiency is possible and concluded that it will help the city to adapt to climate change.
Michael Fraas, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs and Science, praised the Nuremberg Energy Campus as a beacon of energy research in Bavaria and the birthplace of groundbreaking new energy technologies including printable solar panels, hydrogen storage innovation and new insulating building materials.
“Being awarded the Bavarian Energy Prize is proof of the excellence of Nuremberg as a location for science,” he concluded.
The three winners received the prize in the category “building as an energy system” for their energy storage houses project.
They erected the buildings in the town of Herzogenaurach as part of their HerzoBase Energy Storage House project, stressing that the eight houses are energy-flexible and an “energy solution for tomorrow”.
The buildings are climate-neutral and use regenerative energy technology.
