Nuremberg to introduce new rules for e-scooters
Nuremberg is set to introduce new rules for e-scooters which are supposed to make the streets of the German city much safer, mayor of Nuremberg Marcus König announced.
Mayor König stated on social media: ‘’E-scooters cause regular complaints and an unexpected number of accidents, including serious ones. Against this background, the city of Nuremberg wants to improve the safety of all road users and introduce a concept for e-scooter rental systems.’’
An e-scooter has a very low environmental impact when it is in use. Because they run on batteries, they emit no pollutants, which makes them very environmentally friendly.
As climate change continues to pose a serious existential threat to our civilization, emission-free travel is one of the simplest methods to lessen one’s carbon footprint. That is why e-scooters can come in handy for people who are looking to play a part in combating climate change.
However, e-scooters are often responsible for public nuisance, especially in cities. Electric scooters can frequently cause more accidents, sometimes with extremely serious injuries. Moreover, they may be left behind all over the city, which presents a danger to pedestrians or other drivers.
Nuremberg, the second-largest city in the German state of Bavaria, is now looking to regulate the use of e-scooters by introducing clear rules.
‘’The concept for e-scooter rental systems divides the city area into three areas: the old town, the area within the ring including the western city, and the outer city. Commuter lots are to be set up in the old town and within the ring. Parking in random locations will be expensive: expected to begin in the spring of 2023, the rental fee will continue to run until the vehicle is properly returned to a collective parking lot,’’ Mayor König explained.
‘’Hopefully, this will bring more safety, fewer e-scooters parked disorderly in the area, and fewer accidents,’’ he stated. (photo credit: Hubi .img/Unsplash)
