Nuremberg presents plans to make public transport greener

Nuremberg has presented plans to make public transport in the city greener, announcing it would buy 46 additional electric buses this year.

Headed by Lord Mayor of Nuremberg Marcus König, city authorities pointed out that the city will expand its green public transport fleet in cooperation with Mercedes-Benz.

Nuremberg procured additional 46 electric buses with the help of state subsidies and noted that they will gradually join the fleet by the end of the year.

VAG public transport company stressed that the move will make almost half of its bus fleet electric and reminded that it plans to make the fleet entirely electric by 2030 as part of the green push.

City authorities pointed out that the new buses, Mercedes’ two eCitaro models, were presented earlier in February, noting that one model has room for 73 passengers and the other for 127.

VAG stressed that new vehicles will suit the needs of all passengers as they boast large multi-purpose areas for bulky luggage, wheelchairs or prams.

The company noted that the new buses are quiet and environmentally friendly, which will benefit passengers and residents.

VAG concluded that it continues to expand its charging network as new electric vehicles are added to the public transport fleet to support the expansion and streamline the transition away from fossil fuels.
