Nuremberg has launched a new housing project in the western part of Worzeldorf neighbourhood.

Under Mayor of Nuremberg Marcus König, the city noted that the plan includes construction of seven buildings with a total of nearly 150 residential units.

In addition, authorities are planning to build a day-care centre, expand the green area in the neighbourhood and build a public recreation area.

Nuremberg pointed out that demand for residential real estate in the city has been high for years, which is reflected in rising real estate prices and rent.

City authorities noted that Nuremberg is also planning to put to use derelict and unused real estate, largely in former commercial areas, to address the lack of housing in the city.

The Worzeldorf development plan will create a smooth transition between the new residential area and open landscape.

This will be achieved by creating a large public green area lined with trees and hedges, with city authorities noting that a public playground will be built in the north of the neighbourhood.

The issue of parking will be solved by building a large underground car park, which will also help to make the new residential area car-free and tailored to meet the needs of cyclists and pedestrians.

City authorities pointed out that planned residential buildings will be similar in appearance to other multi-family houses in the area.
