Nuremberg companies join forces with city authorities to support low-income families

Nuremberg is collecting schools supplies for low-income families as part of the Network Against Poverty initiative.

Mayor of Nuremberg Marcus König and councillor for social affairs Elisabeth Ries called on city companies to gather donations for first-graders – money and school bags in good condition.

City authorities pointed out that this is the 17th Network Against Poverty campaign, which the city organises in cooperation with welfare organisations and private initiatives.

The Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) in Nuremberg coordinates the campaign, manages donations and purchase of new school bags and distribution of donations to beneficiaries.

City authorities reminded that the campaign provided approximately 450 children with schools bags last year, thanking companies for their participation.

König noted that growing energy prices and cost of living put additional pressure on low-income families, stressing the importance of supporting them.

“That’s why we want to give all children a good start,” he pointed out and called on companies to support the initiative.

Ries added “the school supplies campaign is a project with a long tradition in Nuremberg and at the same time a wonderful example of how it is possible in our solidary urban society to support financially disadvantaged families in a very targeted manner.”

City authorities pointed out that a lot can be accomplished through cooperation between companies, residents, city administration and independent organisations.
