The Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS, one of the leading application-oriented research institutions for microelectronic and IT, inaugurated a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) showroom in Nuremberg’s Augustinerhof.

The opening ceremony was attended by the mayor of Nuremberg Marcus König, three Fraunhofer IIS institute directors, Prof. Albert Heuberger, Prof. Bernhard Grill, and Prof. Alexander Martin, as well as numerous other participants.

Mayor of Nuremberg Marcus König stated on social media: ‘’Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the fields of research and the future – and now the people of Nuremberg can try it out and experience how it works. An AI showroom of Fraunhofer IIS has opened in the Augustinerhof, which vividly conveys AI.’’

‘’At the opening, I was allowed to try out the interactive game “metro driver” right away: the interactive game, which is based on a real project with VAG Nuremberg and is about controlling underground trains in such a way that peak loads are avoided, shows the competencies of Fraunhofer IIS in the field of AI,’’ Mayor König continued.

Another part of the new AI centre is meant to educate visitors about the long and successful history of audio coding, from mp3 to today’s fourth generation, which is being further improved with AI technology. At the same location lies the open innovation laboratory of Josephs GmbH, a Fraunhofer IIS spin-off, the company stated in a press release.

Prof. Alexander Martin, director of the Fraunhofer IIS, stated in a press release: ‘’In the exhibition on methods of artificial intelligence, we give an insight into our understanding of AI and how we deal with data. Above all, sustainable data management along the entire data life cycle is important to us. The new location is an attractive venue for bringing science and business together, but also – due to the proximity to the Museum of the Future – for interacting with the general public.’’
