The Netherlands: Michelle Kames named Young Civil Servant for 2022
Michelle Kames from the municipality of The Hague was named Young Civil Servant of the Year 2022 during the special ceremony organized last week by FUTUR, the Dutch national network for young civil servants who work for the government.
Mayor of The Hague Jan van Zanen stated on social media: “There is a tremendous amount of young talent running around The Hague City Hall, and we are proud of it. One of them is Michelle Kames, she was elected Young Civil Servant of the Year 2022 last week.”
According to the organization’s website, Michelle demonstrated to the jury that a combination of youth and experience can be a great asset, and that with her courage and energy the young civil servant can reach new heights during the upcoming year.
“Michelle is task manager of ‘Werken en ontmoeten’ at the Department of Operations and with her enthusiasm, guts and creativity a true ambassador for the organization. This was also the opinion of the jury, who declared her the winner after evaluating her interviews, assignments, pitches and videos. Therefore, on behalf of all colleagues, I presented her with flowers,” mayor Van Zanen stated.
Three finalists who made it to the final round of this year’s edition of the competition were Marc Wessels of the Stichtse Rijnlanden Water Board, Martin Chaigneau of the Municipality of Utrecht and Michelle Kames of the Municipality of The Hague. As the winner, Kamer has received a training voucher made available by the Administrative Academy of the Netherlands.
Since 2020, the competition has been organized every year by FUTUR, the organization dedicated to emphasizing the value that young civil workers provide to the public sector and society. This year, much like in 2021, the winner was announced during a live ceremony. The finalists also had a chance to answer questions from the audience during the final event.
