Mayor Fandakova: “The Recovery Fund is a chance for more efficient and sustainable future”

Mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova took part in an online meeting of the Committee of the Regions on pandemic recovery and why it should start at the local and regional level.

“The past year has been difficult for all of us. Unfortunately, the reality is currently showing us that we are far from recovery and this path will be long with many challenges. But it is an indisputable fact that cities are not only a generator of problems but also a driver of solutions. That is why today we are talking about the future – what needs to be invested in”, said mayor Fandakova in her speech This was said in her speech addressed to the participants in the meeting at European level.

Fandakova gave an example of supporting the development of cities by financing projects with European funds. According to her: “The Recovery Fund is a great opportunity for our countries and cities and a chance for a more efficient and sustainable future. That is why I believe that these are investments of the future. This plan is a new instrument aimed at a sustainable, coherent and fair recovery of the Member States through three pillars – supporting recovery, stimulating the economy and private investment, drawing lessons from the crisis”.

Mayor Fandakova pointed out that “Sofia continues to develop as a modern and dynamic city, thanks to our consistent efforts to change the city and modernize the urban environment. We continue with a sound financial policy”.
