InfrastructureNewsSocial issuesTravel
City of Madrid has approved a new Sustainable Mobility Ordinance – they plan to restrict the mobility and access of the most polluting vehicles to its streets. In a few years, Madrid’s Low Emission Zone (ZBE) will cover all the streets of the capital (604 km2), and this means it will become the largest LEZ in Europe. To compare with, the Low Emission Zone in Brussels is 161 km2 big, Pais’s LEZ is 105 km2 and Barcelona’s is 95 km2.
The focus of this plan is to ban vehicles without an environmental label (diesel before 2006 and gasoline before 2000) from Madrid, no matter it they are residents or not.
Mayor of Madrid José Luis Martínez-Almeida presented all the details of the new Sustainable Mobility Ordinance and is a complete supporter of this plan.
