Lord mayor of Dublin strongly promotes gender equality
Alison Gilliland is an Irish politician who has been serving as the 353rd Lord Mayor of Dublin since June 2021. By achieving the title of Lord mayor, she also became the 10th female to hold this position.
Lord Mayor of Dublin was born in Drogheda, County Louth, and grew up in Ballybay, County Monaghan. She is a former primary school teacher and a full-time official with The Irish National Teachers’ Organisation which is the oldest and largest teachers’ trade union in Ireland.
Gilliland is dedicated to making the city of Dublin a better and safer city. Since she has become Lord Mayor of Dublin, the city has joined the Partnership for Healthy Cities, a prestigious global network of 70 cities committed to saving lives by preventing non-communicable diseases and injuries.
One of her main goals also includes promoting active mobility by increasing facilities for cyclists and introducing school zones and cycle buses.
Lord Mayor of Dublin wants to enhance local community and reimage the city center by making it a place where people can enjoy arts, culture, and recreation amenities. She wants to make Dublin a city where people live in a sustainable manner that promotes personal, environmental well-being as well as economic activity. Gilliland also wants to solve the issue of housing in the city by implementing some long-term solutions to homelessness.
