Las Palmas expands electric vehicle infrastructure with new charging stations
Las Palmas has announced plans to build new charging stations as part of broader efforts to expand car charging infrastructure.
City authorities headed by Mayor of Las Palmas Augusto Hidalgo Macario noted that 17 new parking spaces with charging points will be added to the El Rincón car park.
Three charging points will be built next to spaces for people with reduced mobility and will be wider for greater accessibility and two 50-kW charging stations will be built in cooperation with Endesa X renewable energy company.
Public transport company Sagulpa noted that electric vehicles charge between 6 and 8 hours on average and added that the new car park will cover the needs of all types of vehicles.
City authorities stressed that new charging points have smart battery diagnostics technology to help extend battery life and will prioritise charging of the most depleted batteries.
Chargers are compatible with all types of electric vehicles and will track use to help Sagulpa adapt and improve the system in the future.
Las Palmas pointed out that the project is in line with its plans to expand the municipal car charging infrastructure and added that 17 new charging points will be added to more than 60 already in use.
The move will help the city transition to more sustainable transport and achieve environmental targets.
