Dublin has presented the results of its Energy Efficiency Retrofitting Programme in the period up to the end of 2022.

Headed by Lord Mayor of Dublin Caroline Conroy, the city pointed out that more than 9,000 social houses have been upgraded under the programme.

The move saved an estimated 677,184 MWh of energy worth approximately EUR 73.6 million, with city authorities stressing that the programme is aimed at cutting unnecessary consumption of energy, demand for non-renewable resources and emissions of greenhouse gases.

The programme also aims to improve living conditions and make the urban environment healthier as well as help tenants to save money by lowering heating costs.

Dublin authorities reminded that the first phase of the programme was launched in 2013 and lasted through 2018, stressing that more than 8,000 social houses were upgraded. Upgrades included additional insulation for walls, boilers and pipes, and new ventilation, among other.

The second phase started in 2018 and ended in 2022, with more than 1,000 social houses upgraded. Upgrades in the second phase included new insulation and ventilation as well as installation of new windows, doors and heat pumps, among other.

City authorities concluded that energy efficiency upgrades across the social housing stock will help Dublin to cut CO2 emissions and energy consumption while improving living conditions of tenants and helping them to save money.
