Dortmund hosts conference to discuss regional hydrogen cooperation
Dortmund has hosted the 2nd Dortmund Hydrogen Conference in November to discuss regional cooperation on hydrogen projects.
At the conference, Lord Mayor of Dortmund Thomas Westphal discussed ways to improve scientific, economic and political cooperation with his counterparts from Hamm and Unna district.
They talked about existing obstacles to cooperation, plans for the future and cooperation between scientific institutions and businesses, among other.
Attendants of the conference pointed out that more research and development is needed on possible use of hydrogen as an energy source.
Dortmund authorities noted that the conference offers opportunities to scientists, politicians and entrepreneurs to discuss plans and network.
The administration reminded that Dortmund, Hamm and Unna are connected by more than just geographical proximity, pointing to close and developing economic, infrastructural and cultural ties.
Westphal stressed the importance of close cooperation in the region, noting that “South Westphalia, East Westphalia, the Westphalian part of the Ruhr area are economically and technologically very closely intertwined.”
He added that crises in recent years showed that cooperation needs to be strengthened further, pointing out that “division of labour in the home region is becoming increasingly important, especially when it comes to energy, logistics, value chains and the shortage of skilled workers.”
Westphal noted that cities and municipalities in the region complement each other in many areas and concluded that they are stronger together.
