Madrid Artes Digitales: the largest center for immersive experience in Spain

News

Madrid, the capital city of Spain, is known for many cultural and historical locations. Now, with the opening of Madrid Artes Digitales, it will present a new innovative attraction for all its visitors. The location of the new center is Nave 16, which was in the past Matadero municipal center for contemporary creation.

The Madrid Artes Digitales, also called MAD, is a center for immersive experiences, the largest one in Spain and the second largest in Europe. This facility embraces several important aspects, which are then presented as themes, such as art, science, culture, technology and avant-garde.

The whole center is spread on 2000m², laid out with various installations, which enable visitors to taste a full digital experience. The space will be used for experiments in immersiveness, which will be utilized through audiovisual projections, augmented and virtual reality and holography.

This center will promote a new kind of relationship between art and society with multidisciplinary experiences. The main goal is to promote historical and cultural heritage. This will be done through these new technologies, which aim at attracting both younger and older visitors.

The content exposed in the center will have a wide variety, with each exhibition being adjusted to use modern technology. Three primary programs, which will be a content basis for the following months, are created by DATATRON (organization of creators, which also organize LEV Festival and LEV Matadero), MIRA:MOV (one of the most notable digital festivals in Spain) and SONAR (the oldest global festival of electronic music).

The content, beside exhibitions and similar events, will include two unique festivals. First one, called XR-EDU, will aim at promotion of education in reality technologies and expansion of them. The second one, called XR-DOCS, will be the first festival of its kind. It will be dedicated to promotion of the immersive documentary genre.

The first, opening exhibition for this center will be of Gustav Klimt, one of the renowned artists whose works are widely recognized and present a first step in transition from painting to modernity. Therefore, the KLIMT exhibition will be hosted in MAD. Through this exhibition, all visitors will be able to immerse themselves in his work nearly completely.

Furthermore, MAD will also have a parallel program which will promote contemporary digital creation, but also enable the practice of hybrid artist genres. Special focus will be put on incorporation of live arts and digital creation. (photo credit: Klimt’s immersive exhibition. MS. El Mundo)
