Copenhagen to breathe new life into its famous square
Mayor of Copenhagen Sophie Hæstorp Andersen has presented fresh plans to breathe new life into the famous public square Søren Kierkegaards Plads located in the centre of the Danish capital.
Mayor Hæstorp Andersen stated on social media: ‘’As you can see in the picture, there is not much green on Søren Kierkegaards Plads. The square with the many gray tiles otherwise has one of Copenhagen’s best addresses – right by the harbor and the Royal Library in the heart of Copenhagen.’’
‘’But it could easily be greener, and it has the potential to be used for much more than just passing through by Copenhageners,’’ the mayor of the Danish city further stated.
Therefore, mayor Hæstorp Andersen revealed that the square, which is named after the famous Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard, will go through a major transformation this summer.
‘’That’s why we’re giving the square a big boost in a new urban experiment during the Tour de France and over the summer. Perfectly positioned for the single start route, the square will be transformed into a cultural fan spot, so you can take part in the yellow party and watch the Tour riders whizz by at close range,’’ mayor Hæstorp Andersen explained.
According to the plans, the new design of the square will include plants, playing areas, food trucks and pergolas. Copenhagen, which will host The Grand Départ of the 2022 edition of the world-famous cycling race Tour de France, will use this occasion to explore how the square can be given a makeover in the longer run.
‘’The plan is then that we spend the summer exploring how we can decorate and develop the space more permanently. Therefore, I hope you will go down past the square when it opens on June 29,’’ mayor of Copenhagen Sophie Hæstorp Andersen stated. (photo credit: wikipedia)
