Copenhagen plans to expand its metro system
The metro is one of the most convenient and fastest ways to get around Copenhagen. Recently, mayor of Copenhagen Sophie Hæstorp Andersen announced fresh plans for the metro network expansion in the Danish capital.
Mayor Hæstorp Andersen stated on social media: ‘’Many of us love the metro, and now I am happy to announce that I am proposing, together with several of my colleagues at City Hall, to extend it with a new line.’’
‘’Specifically from Copenhagen H via a station at Bryggebroen, the southern part of Islands Brygge, and DR-Byen via Amagerbrogade up to Refshaleøen and on to Kløverparken and Lynetteholm,’’ mayor Hæstorp Andersen explained.
According to the mayor of the Danish city, the plans would strengthen the public transportation system in Copenhagen, and would also make it possible for more residents to benefit from the metro system.
‘’Our proposal is that the line is extended in stages, so that we can eventually cover even more of the city in cooperation with Frederiksberg. At the same time, Refshaleøen and Lynetteholmen will be connected with tracks of all our other metro lines,’’ mayor of Copenhagen said.
In September, all interested parties will have the opportunity to voice their opinions on the new line and station locations.
Since its inception in 2002, the Copenhagen metro has served almost half a billion passengers. According to Joys of Travelling, the service schedule was adjusted in 2009, making Copenhagen one of the first cities in Europe to have a 24-hour metro system. (photo credit: storyset/Freepik)
