Community meets sustainability in Naples’ new eco-district

Naples presented its plans to build an eco-district in Ponticelli suburb, noting that the planning phase is nearing completion.

City authorities headed by Mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi pointed out that the plan is based on resident input on preferred apartment sizes and amenities, but is not final.

As part of the development project, buildings in poor condition will be torn down and replaced with new residential buildings, which will improve quality of life in Naples and make the city more environmentally friendly.

Project coordinator Giulio Rosi pointed out that the area will be rebuilt in line with the Neapolitan architectural style, with a large public square, urban gardens and a sculpture garden, among other.

He stressed that the focus is on making the public square at the centre of the area “live continuously through the day,” which city authorities want to achieve by careful planning.

The project includes construction of 104 new residential units that will overlook the green courtyard.

City authorities pointed out that the project is worth roughly EUR 35.5 million and added that the old buildings are not safe as asbestos was used in construction.

Neighbourhood resident Xhesika Kolici noted that she is excited to see the project move forward and concluded that it will improve quality of life in Naples.
