Cologne initiates vision for future urban society and administration
The Mayor of Cologne Henriette Reker at the beginning of October started two projects to set the course for Cologne as the city of the future. Cologne is to be further developed as an attractive, smart, and innovative city and, at the same time, a with modern, powerful, and sustainable administration.
“We are already on the right track; our successful reform strategy is increasingly turning into an innovation strategy. Smart City is already providing important impulses for a comfortable and competitive Cologne. We want to develop Cologne into a modern metropolis that stands for innovation, diversity, and economic strength” said mayor Henriette Reker.
Future strategies explain the topics of digitization and innovation as well as sustainability and factors for a livable environment. With the two vision projects, the city of Cologne wants to strategically shape digitization and innovation in terms of integrated sustainable urban development and link them with existing elements, for example, the Cologne Perspectives 2030+.
Cologne 21 – Smart City
With this strategy, the city brings together players from the administration, urban society, commercial enterprises, and scientific institutions to jointly design an overarching, attractive, ambitious, and livable future vision. The successful implementation of the Smart City will also be an important factor for future economic dynamism in Cologne as a technology and media location. The involvement of the public is ensured in various project stages: During the project, participation formats are provided to enable citizens to participate in the design draft.
Administration – innovative and digital
The project focuses on the potential, development, and use of innovative ideas and digital technologies that can be effective in almost all areas of municipal administration. How important digitization and innovation are is also shown by the corona-related requirements for administration. To position the Cologne administration for the future, a target image is being developed in the project as a learning, high-performance, innovative, and digital organization of the future. The existing ideas and initiatives are integrated into an overall strategy.
