Braga presented best practices for attracting and retaining talent at the Innovation, Talent and Entrepreneurship meeting held in Bilbao as part of the Eurocities Economic Development Forum.

António Barroso, adviser of Mayor of Braga Ricardo Rio, attended the meeting along with representatives of Espoo, Dortmund, Munich, Stavanger, Eindhoven, Hengelo, Enschede, Barcelona, Berlin and other cities.

They discussed innovation and cooperation projects as well as shared knowledge on innovation policies aimed at economic development. Braga presented some of the policies it implemented and their results, including efforts to fulfil UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Barroso pointed out that the meeting  helped Braga to “present our experiences, share with European colleagues and absorb on the ground the implementation of Bilbao policies, mainly those related to economic dynamism and employment promotion.”

In addition, the meeting helps cities to replicate good practices, cooperate and demonstrate their commitment to sustainable development, Barroso noted and concluded that Braga was proud to take part.

Braga’s policies helped to create jobs and attract investments, with city authorities reminding that the city launched its Talent Programme in 2019 in cooperation with the business community. The programme is aimed at attracting and retaining talent, and was expanded in 2020 with the addition of the Work in Braga portal.

Roughly two dozen companies started advertising their job openings on the Work in Braga portal immediately after its launch, with the number increasing to more than 200 in 2022. According to Braga authorities, the portal helped to employ nearly 2,000 people since its launch.
