Bordeaux has presented the results of the Solidarity Night project, noting that 554 people were homeless at the end of January.

Headed by Mayor of Bordeaux Pierre Hurmic, city authorities noted that 180 city employees and 320 volunteers helped to implement the project.

As part of the project, additional institutions joined the homelessness tracking system, with Bordeaux stressing that more experts will help the city to address problems in a more effective manner.

Besides a new methodology for preparing volunteers, the project introduced more census locations, including slums, car parks and public transport.

Volunteers counted 273 people in slums, including 128 children and minors, and 182 people in squats, noting that in total 554 people were in need of shelter.

City authorities pointed out that these people lack access to dignified and secure living conditions and added that a detailed analysis will be carried out in the coming period to prepare new measures before the summer.

New measures will contribute to those already in place to support homeless people, improve their quality of life and reduce homelessness in Bordeaux.

The city reminded that the Solidarity Night project is a tool for continuous analysis of homelessness with the aim of better understanding the specific situations of the people in question and devising measures to address issues.
