Berlin approves digital projects in culture sector
Berlin has approved nine projects for digital development in the culture sector worth approximately EUR 800,000.
City authorities headed by Mayor of Berlin Franziska Giffey pointed out that the Digital Development in the Culture Sector programme helps cultural institutions, associations and representatives of the independent scene to tap the potential of digital technologies.
The programme is aimed at helping them to develop and share new skills with a focus on gain of practical knowledge, communication and discussion.
Berlin’s Senator for Culture and Europe Klaus Lederer noted previous years have shown us that we should consolidate and even expand our funding activities to increase digital competence in the cultural sector.”
He added that the diversity of Berlin’s cultural landscape is reflected in the nine approved projects, which the jury selected based on “standards of promoting participation in cultural production in an outstanding way.”
Lederer noted that he is looking forward to the projects and concluded that he is happy with the funding recommendation of the jury.
The three members of the jury – theatre critic Esther Slevogt, cultural policy and migration researcher Özlem Canyürek and research institute Technologiestiftung Berlin head Nicolas Zimmer – picked the winning nine projects in December last year.
