Barakaldo has launched projects that residents proposed under the participatory budget programme worth nearly EUR 145,000.

Headed by Mayor of Barakaldo Amaia del Campo, city authorities pointed out that works have already started in Retuerto, Rontegi and Cruces neighbourhoods.

Three playgrounds will be modernised in Retuerto, which residents called for during the last series of participatory budget meetings.

As part of the project, the playgrounds will be repaved with new rubber surfaces and new playground equipment will be installed, with city authorities noting that the investment is worth roughly EUR 48,300.

Works in Rontegi and Cruces neighbourhoods are to start later in March, with playgrounds to be repaved, new trees planted around play areas and new equipment installed. A new slide will be installed and swings will be adapted to improve safety.

City authorities pointed out that the investment in Rontegi is worth more than EUR 48,000.

In Cruces, three playgrounds will be modernised and equipped with new swings, adapted baskets, climbing ropes and other equipment. City authorities stressed that the playgrounds will feature equipment for older children as well and added that the project in Cruces is worth nearly EUR 48,400.

Barakaldo concluded that renovation of playground swings was one of the most popular proposals among residents.
