Amsterdam invites project proposals for 750th anniversary of the city
Amsterdam has invited residents to propose projects for the 750th anniversary of the city.
Headed by Mayor of Amsterdam Femke Halsema, the city pointed out that residents have an opportunity to give substance to the planned commemoration of the city’s 750th anniversary and can apply for subsidies worth up to EUR 50,000 per project.
Amsterdam will assess applications in the order they are received, pointing out that it is better to submit applications early and warning that the project may close earlier than planned if the number of applications exceeds expectations.
City authorities stressed that all ideas are welcome, including sports activities for young people, neighbourhood dinners, cultural activities for the elderly and different combinations of themes and target groups.
Applicants are required to organise projects with at least one other resident and complete them by 27 October 2025, with the city pointing out that all conditions and other relevant information is available online.
As example projects, Amsterdam pointed to the community boxing project that aims to bring together different population groups through sports and socialisation.
The second example project is focused on toy exchange, with residents to swap more than 10,000 toys for children for the city’s birthday. Amsterdam pointed out that the project promotes sustainability because it does not include consumption of new raw materials.
