Madrid: public transportation to become fully electric by 2027
Mayor of Madrid José Luis Martínez-Almeida was joined by King of Spain Felipe VI and Queen Letizia on a celebration event for EMT, city’s public urban transport company who just turned 75.
For this occasion, mayor Martínez-Almeida and the royals took a ride on one of Madrid’s 100% electric bus. During the ride, they discussed EMT’s future plans and the renewal of the fleet with the goal of becoming fully electric in the next five years.
After the ride, the mayor stated: “When people entered, they were very surprised by the presence of the royals, but immediately they began to talk with them and take pictures”.
During the tour, the monarch confessed that it was the first time he got on a city bus, while Queen Letizia recalled that she used it a lot when she was studying in Madrid, first to go to high school and, later, to go to university, reports Euronews.
