Mayor of Zaragoza, Jorge Azcón, joined this year’s motorcycle toy run organised by Red Cross and motorcycle group Wow Rides, a special event when bikers get together, donate and deliver Christmas toys for underprivileged children, all on motorcycles. Many dressed for the event as Santa and decorated their bikes.
Jorge Azcón, mayor of Zaragoza expressed that even in this difficult year, people must keep the Christmas spirit alive. The event was also joined by María Navarro, government spokesperson, who attended dressed as Santa and spoke about providing toys to children who need them and how important this event is, especially in this complex and unusual year.
After the success of the first four editions where more than 2,000 toys were collected, a group of bikers has joined forces again yesterday afternoon in Zaragoza, organizing the 2020 Papá Mañoel event.
The organization of the event has placed great emphasis on complying with sanitary measures: there has not been a meeting point, nor a group photo. Crowds were avoided, and it has been urged that the participants not get off their motorcycles or remove their helmets. Even the mayor Azcón who wore the Santa suit and a long white beard have not removed any of it, nor did he talk to the media.
“We want to spend a fun day in this very complex year and please the children who see us circulating in Santa Claus costumes in the afternoon and make Christmas happier for the little ones who will receive our gifts”, the organizers affirmed.
The Zaragoza Red Cross will be in charge of the subsequent delivery of toys to other entities and families that request it through its Educational Toy program.
