Mayor of Florence to attend Italy’s pavilion presentation for Expo 2020
Held every five years, Expo 2020 Dubai got postponed last year due to the pandemic. Hundreds of countries using pavilions to show off the latest in architecture and technology will be able to participate at the Expo 2020 from October 1st until the end of March 2022.
Italy is one of the many participating countries and they are today presenting its pavilion which has been completed in its eternal part with three hulls forming a record-setting tricolor. On the presenting event, some of the participants will be: mayor of Florence Dario Nardella, foreign minister Luigi Di Maio, the commissioner for Italy’s participation at the Dubai Expo Paolo Glisenti, the authors of the pavilion’s project, Carlo Ratti and Italo Rota and many others.
It will be followed by a ceremony at the construction site of the installation, where “the most accurate reproduction ever made of the David of Michelangelo”, according to organizers, will also be presented.
In order to create the sculpture, some of the major 3D printers available in Italy were used and part of the creation was made with material obtained by recycling plastic bottles, reports Ansamed.
On October 1st, for the first time ever, the three overturned hulls in green, white and red will be unveiled. They will cover the pavilion creating the largest tricolor ever made in the history of our country, stated the organizers.
In addition, David’s ‘twin’ will be unveiled for the first time. It was placed over the past few days in the pavilion as part of the project led by the commissioner for Italy’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai, the museum of the Accademia Gallery in Florence and the ministry of culture in collaboration with the department of civil and environmental engineering of the University of Florence.
